This beta, leaked in 1989, appears more or less complete (if not bug-free). In fact, an 'Ultimate Save Game' is included, with Julian standing outside the final dungeon. However, at the end of that dungeon lies an empty room, with the final boss described by the walkthrough nowhere to be found. Is it an emulation glitch, was the game won prior to saving, or is the beta a 17,000-screen shaggy dog story? We may have to wait for someone who can test it on real hardware to find out (see the Compatibility section).

The game requires color but is incompatible with Mac OS 7 and higher, locking out most emulators and all but a few Macintosh models. It is technically playable in Mini vMac emulating a Mac II, but the gameplay window is a psychedelic riot of false colors that range from ugly to unintelligible. (The 3.5 alpha renders the colors correctly, but introduces other bugs that make the game even less playable.)
