The secret to a happy life is not an abundance of wealth – and yet we often hear people say they want more money. But rarely does anyone say there is too much or just enough.

In the 1930s of studying money and happiness, one of the most remarkable people I have ever met was a Japanese entrepreneur and investor named Wahei Takeda.

Every major version of Mac OS X macOS has come with a new default wallpaper. As you can see, I have collected them all here. While great in their day, the early wallpapers are now quite small in the world of 5K and 6K displays. If you want to see detailed screenshots of every release.

Before Takeda passed away in 2016, at the age of 83, I had the honor of having him as a mentor for 15 years. A truly happy person, he taught me what it really means to live a successful and meaningful life.

  1. Word of the day: living rent-free
  2. The first login is to unlock the disk if you have FileVault, done before booting OS X. Normally this would hand over the credentials to OS X and log you in as well, but it seems when resuming from sleep this doesn't happen so you have to login to OS X as well to resume the session. – sj26 Jul 5 '15 at 23:04.

“The game of money has no end,” Takeda once told me, comparing it to baseball. Even if you win at the bottom of the ninth inning, it does not guarantee victory.

The game of money is the same, he explained. Even if you are wealthy at the age of 30 or 40, this does not mean that something catastrophic cannot happen and leave you impoverished.

“Warren Buffett from Japan”
Often called so, Takeda was one of the most successful and famous investors in the country.

In 2006, Takeda had a top 10 stake in more than 100 companies worth 30 billion yen, making him the number one individual investor in Japan, the Nikkei newspaper reported at the time.

Takeda was also the founder of Takeda Confectionery, a company whose biggest seller was Tamago Boro, which sells bite-sized cookies shaped like small eggs.

Interestingly, if you visit the factory, you will find workers who listen to the music of children singing “arigato”, which means thanks in Japanese.

‘Maro’ is the key to a happy and abundant life
All this reflects Takeda’s philosophy of “maro”, which is short for magokoro in Japanese and means sincere heart. You could say that your Maro is strong if you have pure intentions and lead a real life.

After Takeda’s success in the confectionery business, he decided to spend more time promoting small business growth and became known as a “community philanthropist.”

Throughout her phenomenal career, Takeda has inspired thousands of people to become more gifted and open to the flow of money, both in and out of life.

He believed that kindness and generosity were the keys to happiness and prosperity.

Achieving Maro status
Those who are in contact with their Maro create winning situations for themselves and the people around them.

When your Maro increases, according to Takeda, three things happen:

You become more magnetic, radiating and attracting positive energy. This surrounds you with good people and things that really interest you, which then creates a cycle of happiness and abundance.

You become more passionate and energized to achieve things that are important to you. This makes you more intuitive and able to choose the best way to live your life. And because you do what you love the most, you are constantly opening the door to new exciting opportunities.

You express more gratitude for life and find more and more that you say “thank you”. Because gratitude is contagious, others begin to express gratitude and welcome more abundance into their lives.

In a society obsessed with money, the simplest way to reach the state of Maro is to express gratitude and give to others, instead of always asking.
